Sustainability at a Variety of Scales: Acting Locally to Impact Globally
On Saturday March 24, 2018, Fleming College’s Ecosystem Management Technology program is hosting the 10th annual Ecosystem Health Conference: Acting Locally to Impact Globally. Focusing on sustainability, this conference aims to provide residents of the Peterborough/Kawartha Lakes region with the tools and inspiration to address a wide range of issues relating to food security, waste management and energy production. Through hands-on workshops exhibits and posters, participants will learn about food foraging, urban wildlife habitats, the benefits of trees in urban ecosystems, and other topics focused on improving sustainability at home and in their community. Vendors and a silent auction will provide opportunities for attendees to purchase sustainable products.
The day’s events will include a screening of the documentary “Call of the Forest”, featuring scientist and acclaimed author Diana Beresford-Kroeger. This film has recently been nominated for the Rob Stewart Award for Best Science or Nature Documentary Program or Series at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards. Following the screening, there will be an opportunity to have Beresford-Kroeger answer questions in an interview facilitated by the conference moderator, Shawna Peddle from the University of Waterloo’s Partners for Action program. Beresford-Kroeger’s works will be available for purchase and the afternoon will wrap up with a reception and book-signing opportunity.
