This is an internationally recognized event and is a time to pause and honour those affected by infertility, pregnancy and infant loss.
Lisa: I am a bereaved mom who has for almost a decade been volunteering with the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Network (Sunnybrook Hospital) and about five years ago I started an organization, It Takes Grace, through which I host community events for individuals in Peterborough affected by these losses.
There is an upcoming October 15th vigil for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.
The event is at Rogers Cove, with Centennial Fountain illuminated in purple as our backdrop. The vigil will run from 6:45-7:15 P.M. and will be comprised of poetry, music, candle-lighting, and reading of names.
One in four pregnancies will end in a loss yet despite this high frequency, pregnancy loss continues to be a largely misunderstood, disenfranchised and isolating kind of grief.
