Peterborough resident Rebecca Schillemat is participating in the Wounded Warrior One Day Run in Victoria BC on February 5th.
The One Day run is 58 km from Sooke to Sidney across the northern boarder of Victoria on Vancouver Island.
The one day run is 2 weeks before the main run event: 8 days and 600 kms from Port Hardy in the north to Victoria at the southern end of Vancouver Island. The run is done relay style with a team of military and first responders from Vancouver Island.
In 2020 Rebecca participated in the 8 day charity running event to raise awareness of the mental health struggles of military spouses.
Wounded Warriors Canada provides mental health programs and support for veterans, first responders and their families. This is the 10th anniversary for the Wounded Warriors Run BC.
The run began when Afghanistan veterans felt the need to do something and talk about mental health.
Last year the run raised over $165,000 for programs and training to support the mental health of first responders, military and their families.
The 2023 Run goal is $250,000; to donate or learn more about the event visit: https://woundedwarriors.ca/events/wounded-warrior-bc-run
