Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre and partnering community organizations will host their annual Take Back the Night (TBTN) advocacy and awareness event in Nogojiwanong- Peterborough. This year’s theme of “Rage and Resistance” reflects the feelings of anger so many of us feel when we consider how prevalent sexual violence still is, especially for more marginalized folks. We want this event to allow space for people’s emotions and also provide a chance to support one another and rise in resistance. Approximately 100 community attendees are anticipated.
TBTN will take place on Thursday September 18th from 5:00pm-9:00pm outside in the Peterborough Square Courtyard (corner of Charlotte St. and Water St.). This event is free and open to everyone- we welcome folks of all genders to come to participate, learn, and advocate for social change. We will have light refreshments available for participants.
The event will begin from 5:00pm-6:30pm with a variety of community agencies tabling to share information about their resources and how folks can connect for support. We will also have art supplies so folks can drop in to make posters for the march later in the evening.
From 6:30pm-9:00pm we will host our evening of poems, speakers, and performers followed by our candle-lit solidarity march.
