Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival

Peterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival has been a staple community event for the past 18 years, with the same goal since day one: to make sure women and men from across our region have access to tests and treatments that could save their lives, right here in our community.

Peterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival is a vital fundraiser for the PRHC Foundation, supporting world-class breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC).

Thanks to the thousands of paddlers, donors, sponsors and volunteers who support the Festival every year, we’ve helped fund the vital technology that forms the backbone of outstanding cancer care and helped PRHC expand their efforts to become a Regional Centre of Excellence for Cancer Care. The 2018 Festival raised $211,238.32, bringing our grand total to more than$3.3 million!

THE NUMBERS ARE STARTLING.
Experts predict that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetimes.

Doctors rely on lab results to determine and confirm 100% of cancer diagnoses and treatment decisions. That’s why this year the proceeds of the 2019 Peterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival will fund laboratory technology known as Cellavision. The result? Faster, more accurate breast cancer diagnosis, and less waiting and uncertainty for patients and their loved ones.

And the impact of your support won’t end there. Breast is just one of the cancers that this vital piece of technology will be used for. In fact, PRHC’s lab processes more than 20,000 cancer-related cases annually. That number represents thousands of additional people who will benefit from the Festival and its donors’ investment every single year!

On behalf of PRHC’s patients and everyone who loves them, thank you.

This year, there’s something for everyone at the Festival beyond racing too –Vendors Village Market, Family Fun Zone and much more! Check out www.ptbodragonboat.ca for more details on how to #getintheboat this year!

Organizers of the 19th Peterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival are pleased to announce new partnerships with CAMERON’S Brewing and The Peterborough Folk Festival to help maximize fundraising efforts and offer off-the-water entertainment for this year’s Festival on Saturday, June 8 at Del Crary Park.
“We are excited to welcome CAMERON’S Brewing and The Peterborough Folk Festival to the Dragon Boat Festival family as we explore new fundraising opportunities together at our 19th Festival,” said Michelle Thornton, Chair of Peterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival. “Participants and visitors will have first-time experiences at the Festival this year and the option to stick around after races to celebrate their paddling success with teams, family and friends.” Festival hours at Del Crary Park will be extended beyond the final races to encourage participants and supporters to stick around and cheer to another successful year of fundraising. The Festival will be home to its first ever beer garden with selections provided by CAMERON’S Brewery, which has special ties to the Peterborough community. “As someone who has spent the majority of their life in the city, our partnership with Peterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival is very close to my heart,” says Andrea Plumley, Territory Manager at CAMERON’S Brewing. “We are proud to support a special cause and spend the day with survivors, community members and those who travel far for the Festival each year.”
Peterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival is a fun day of dragon boat racing between community, competitive and breast cancer survivor teams. The Vendors Village coordinated by Modern Makers Market will be back to showcase handcrafted goods as well as delicious food options, and so will the Family Fun Zone offering a variety of activities for kids of all ages.
All proceeds from the event support breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment in our region through donations to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation. Register and #getintheboat at ptbodragonboat.ca!
