Just in time for Christmas, Carrie Underwood has recorded her first holiday album. Aptly-titled “My Gift,” this offering has a mix of traditional songs – – like “Silent Night” and “O Holy Night” — as well as some original songs.
One of those is “Let There Be Peace”, on which she’s backed by a gospel choir. Another original is “Hallelujah,” co-written by John Legend, and performed as a duet with him.
But perhaps the most special collaborator on this album is Carrie’s five-year-old son Isaiah, who does some of the chorus on “The Little Drummer Boy.”
During a recent press interview, Carrie admitted that she initially wasn’t sure how how Isaiah would be in the recording studio:
“You know, having that moment… I was like, ‘I don’t know how he’s going to do, I don’t know if he’s super excited to be there. If nothing else, he’ll have a fun day seeing what Mommy does,” she recalled, via Sounds Like Nashville. “It was such a great moment for me as a mom to have him share something that I really love to do, and he ended up being really great in the studio… I was so proud.”
Just to prove that Isaiah has inherited his mom’s gift of song…I present this sample of his father’s singing (LOL!):
