Peterborough Musicfest continues its 36th summer season on Wednesday, July 19, welcoming internationally acclaimed Canadian acoustic guitarist Jesse Cook to Del Crary Park.

Peterborough Musicfest continues its 36th summer season on Wednesday, July 12, welcoming the “sonic and visual assault” that is Five Alarm Funk to Del Crary Park.

The 36th summer season of Peterborough Musicfest continues Saturday, July 8 at Del Crary Park with multi award-winning Canadian blues guitarist and singer/songwriter Matt Andersen fronting his band The Big Bottle of Joy.

Dwayne Gretzky is a curated nostalgia trip that captures the unique joy of turning a radio dial and being surprised by the familiar. A 10+ peice juggernaut that brings to life the greatest songs of all time, this talented group of Toronto musicians ignites audiences with their charm, fidelity and theatrical flair. Celebrating classic pop and rock, from Fleetwood Mac to Fatboy Slim, Dwayne Gretzky has delivered electrifying renditions of over 600 songs.

Presenting the incomparable fiddle music duo of Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy. MacMaster, a native of Nova Scotia, and Leahy, lead fiddler for the famed musical family from Lakefield, married in 2002 and remain Canada’s reigning couple of Celtic music. Often performing with their musical children, they have been awarded numerous honours, including Juno and East Coast Music awards.

The 36th summer season of Peterborough Musicfest will have a decidedly local flavour Saturday, July 29 as Ennismore native Melissa Payne brings her huge talent to Del Crary Park, joined by some very special and equally notable musical friends.

Five Counties and the Peterborough Lakers are teaming up for the first annual Little Lakers Game Night. Five Counties kids and families will play a role at the Lakers’ last home game of the season, including taking part in the ceremonial pre-game ball drop. Five Counties staff/volunteers will also be on hand for face painting, raffle/auction, Little Laker T-shirt sales and much more.

The Stairs Lecture in Chemistry, the first endowed lecture series in Chemistry at Trent University, was created by Trent Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Stairs and his wife, Sibyl. Trent University is excited to present Ian Manner from the University of Victoria to be the next speaker for this biennial lecture series.

Nanoparticles possess widths ca. 1000 times less than that of human hair and have many potential applications in fields as diverse as electronics to cancer therapy. However, their preparation has posed many challenges to chemists. In this lecture, the creation of polymer-based nanoparticles with a wide variety of uses will be described using a new method termed “crystallization-driven self-assembly” (CDSA).

On Saturday, February 25, YWCA Empty Bowls ticket holders will visit The Venue at 286 George Street North, Peterborough. They will have 30 minutes to browse and select a gorgeous hand-crafted bowl, generously donated by local artisans of the Kawartha Potters Guild and Kawartha Woodturners Guild.

Christmas comes alive at the Buckhorn Community Centre again this year! From November 21 to December 12, everyone is invited to attend the Festival of Trees, a true celebration of the season. The Festival of Trees will be open, with no admission, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm and on Saturday, November 26 from 11am to 2pm. The event features beautifully decorated Christmas trees as well as festive home décor. There’s no charge to browse the hall, but visitors can purchase tickets for a chance to win items sponsored by local businesses and individuals. Ticket prices are only $5 for 5, $10 for 15 and $15 for 25.

There will be 2 holiday trees being raffled off, a silent auction table, and prizes to be won. The event includes more than 25 vendors to help get your Christmas shopping done from some great local sellers. The event will also be collecting new toys for a local Toy Drive to help families in need during the holiday season.

The Rucksack March for Remembrance will take place on Saturday, November 5 at 9 A.M. beginning the march at Peterborough Confederation Square, walking a 1 kilometer circuit to Nicolls Oval Park.  The event was established to bring people from the community together with one mission in mind; to raise awareness and funding for the many Canadian militaries and first responder families who are in the midst of their own service-related battles.

This Fall, The Friends of the Peterborough Public Library will host their first Giant Book Sale in three years. On Friday, November 4 until Saturday, November 5, come to the Peterborough Public Library at 345 Aylmer St for a huge book sale. The Sale begins on Friday, Nov. 4 from noon until 7 p.m., followed by Saturday Nov. 5 from 10 A.M. until 3 P.M.

The Peterborough County Junior Farmers will be holding a food drive on the evening of Monday, October 31 in the Heritage Park neighbourhood, near the Peterborough Zoo. The drive will accept food and cash donations.
